TevlinGleadle’s Murray Tevlin and John Chesko appeared for the B.C. Anesthesiologists Society seeking Intervenor status in the action between the B.C. Government and others, and Cambie Surgeries Corporation and others. The application was opposed by the B.C. Government.
The action is one between several patients, and surgical clinics, and the Government over the issue whether there is a constitutional right of a citizen to pay for his or her own timely and necessary surgical or other health care.
Members of the B.C. Anesthesiologists Society are involved, pre, post and during virtually every surgery performed in B.C. and these physicians wish to offer the Court their unique and balanced perspective on the state of health care today. The BCAS presently has no official position on whether the Government or the other parties should win the litigation.
After hearing submissions from several parties, and having reserved decision, the Chief Justice allowed the Society’s application and granted Intervenor status to this important and responsible physicians’ organization.
