We have received the Judgment of the BC Supreme court which refused to certify the BCMA Class Action. The BCMA successfully argued that the BCMA is in the legal position of a Trade Union, and the agreements between the Government and BCMA allow the BCMA to impose mandatory dues, analogous to Union Dues. They are permitted to do this by imposing so called “administrative fees” on benefits to which non-members are entitled, and which can amount to as much as 50% of the value of a given benefit.
Although disappointing to us, the Judgment is carefully and clearly reasoned, and is posted on this website for your review.
We greatly appreciate the many inquiries and messages of support we have received, from BCMA members and non-members alike, over the past two years as we have attempted to carry this important matter forward.
