Ryan Sissons is an Articled Student with Tevlin Gleadle Curtis. He looks forward to developing his legal skills under the guidance of the lawyers at the firm.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Ryan recently completed his JD at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. During his second year of law school Ryan worked at a boutique law firm specializing in personal bankruptcy and insolvency where he helped individuals get discharged from bankruptcy and aided in a Supreme Court of Canada application relating to student loan relief. Throughout law school Ryan also participated in the Law Students Legal Advice Program and the UBC Criminal Law Clinic where he advised and helped represent individuals in Provincial Court and multiple administrative tribunals, including the Residential Tenancy Branch and the BC Human Rights Tribunal.

Before law school, Ryan completed a Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of Calgary.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

During his time at law school Ryan was an active participant in the student community through his role as the law student Senator where he sat as an adjudicator on multiple student appeal committees and then in his role as President of the Law Students’ Society. Ryan was also the founder and President of the Social Welfare Law and Policy Society at the law school. Through these roles Ryan helped promote community building and EDI initiatives throughout the law school and UBC as a whole. Outside of law school Ryan has also volunteered with various food banks and homeless shelters throughout his life.

PERSONAL

Ryan grew up in a small town in the East Kootenays where his parents ran a local bakery and deli. He is an avid board gamer and enjoys watching a variety of sports including hockey, football, baseball, and rugby. In his free time you can find Ryan gardening, baking, playing video games, or finding the next TV show to watch.
